On Wednesday, June 14, with the help of Mile High United Way (MHUW), 35 Aurora associates spread love by making 250 peanut butter and jelly sack lunches to benefit the Comitis Crisis Center, the only all-weather shelter in the Adams, Arapahoe, and East Denver regions. Comitis provides 365 days of free access to any community member affected by temperature, inclement weather, or disaster/crisis. Comitis also partners with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to provide food, clothing, and shelter to homeless veteran women and their children or immediate family. Other critical services available to the community include temporary shelter for families and mental health and substance abuse programs. As a MHUW Strategic Investment Partner, Comitis is committed to creating a strong community and positive change for individuals and families in Aurora.
Our MHUW representatives Caitlin and Jen made a huge difference by shopping for the supplies, sharing information about Comitis, and coordinating the delivery of the sack lunches to the center. A special thanks goes out to them and to all of the Nelnet associates who volunteered. Efforts like this make a difference in our community!
