One of Nelnet’s core values is giving back to the communities in which we live and work. During nGage, our new hire orientation program, Nelnet’s newest associates had the chance to live out this core value by participating in a hands-on philanthropy project during their first day at Nelnet.

These new hires worked to make going back to school an exciting time for kids in Lincoln Public Schools. 25 associates in positions including Home Advisor, Skip Tracing, Communications, and Marketing, filled backpacks with school supplies for students in the Migrant Education Program through Lincoln Public Schools.

Bags packed with pencils, notebooks, binders, highlighters, and scissors will be given to students who have experienced education disruptions resulting from repeated moves due to their parents’ migratory work lifestyle. The Migrant Education Program has many services, including family literacy, after school programs, tutoring, summer school, an educational migratory tracking system, cultural and language support, and PAC meetings.
