Every year, Nelnet runs a United Way campaign to help create educational, financial, and wellness opportunities for those in need. In the 2018 campaign, Nelnet raised $1,072,145 across all locations with 24% associate participation.

Associates made such an impact last year that Nelnet received a number of awards from United Way. For the second year in a row, Nelnet’s Lincoln location raised the most money of one single organization, raising $615,908.

Lincoln was also honored with the Volunteer of the Year Award. In 2018, 870 associates collectively donated 648 hours of their time. Nelnet also donated the largest sum to Resources Under Management, which are undesignated funds that get allocated toward all United Way agencies.

Among organizations with over 251 employees, Nelnet had the most Leadership Givers, or generous supporters who lead the movement for change in communities and empower everyone to join in and do what they can. Finally, Nelnet had the second largest number of “Engage. Empower. Graduate.” supporters, helping to identify and address disadvantages that children and families face in local elementary school communities.

It’s amazing what can be accomplished when people come together to support a great cause. By giving back to the communities where we live and work, our associates live out one of our favorite core values.

As the 2019 campaign approaches, keep in mind that gifts to United Way are extra impactful when they come from Nelnet associates. Nelnet matches 100% of associate donations, and doubles the match for first-time donors giving through our corporate campaign.

Donations made through United Way go directly toward service projects in your own community. If you already have an organization you’re passionate about, you can also direct your donation straight to them!
