Why We Serve
A message from Mike Dunlap, Chairman of the Board
Personally, I find that striving every day to fulfill a greater purpose – whether it’s helping my kids or assisting associates and customers to reach their goals – gives me the most satisfaction. That’s why our purpose, to serve others, means so much to me.
By helping others accomplish their goals instead of focusing on ourselves, we can have a huge impact in the lives of our customers, making the world a place where fulfilling dreams is possible. I recognize it’s an ambitious goal – and I’m very proud to be a part of it.
I want to publicly thank all our associates for their hard work and dedication to our customers and communities.
Together, we’re making the world a better place – for everyone.
Our Strategic Direction
We live to serve others.
We make dreams possible.
We serve our customers, associates, and communities.
We believe in:
- Providing superior customer experiences
- Creating an awesome work environment
- Pursuing opportunities for diversification and growth
- Communicating openly and honestly
- Giving back to the communities in which we live and work
Nelnet operates in four distinct business segments:
Payment technology, school administration software, and community management solutions for K-12 schools, higher education institutions, churches, and businesses.
Connects homes and businesses in Nebraska and Colorado with fiber internet, TV, and phone services.
Provides customer service for student loan borrowers, technology related to student loan customer service, and outsourcing services for guaranty agencies.
Private student loans, student loan refinancing, and life and disability insurance to assist students and families.
Balancing Our Stakeholders
Teams across the company work tirelessly to achieve our vision of making dreams possible, while also balancing our four primary stakeholders: customers, associates, shareholders, and the communities in which we live and work. We thrive when we make decisions that balance the interests of each of these groups, and we continue to use this philosophy in our day-to-day business.
