Power Up With Nelnet Renewable Energy
Nelnet proudly serves thousands of higher ed campuses and K-12 schools, and numerous businesses with innovative technologies and services. We’ve recently added solar power: on-campus and off-site solar as well as community solar, and since 2018, our work has led to solar installations in 15 states valued at $720 million. In addition to providing renewable energy, we make it possible for campuses and others to invest in solar farms and provide services such as community solar subscriber acquisition to developers. Eric Howard is leading Nelnet Renewable Energy’s expansion to provide solar installations and other power solutions to K-12 schools and higher ed institutions nationwide. Eric has managed business relations for more than 20 years and has facilitated hundreds of multi-party collaborations involving senior leaders from educational institutions, corporations, federal and state agencies, international organizations, and foreign governments. His work has taken him to more than three dozen countries, and in 2007, his work on science diplomacy with the Muslim world was formally recognized by the U.S. State Department. From 1998-2012, he was executive director at two small, tech-oriented nonprofits – one of them the Fulbright Academy of Science & Technology, a global nonprofit serving Fulbright scholars and leaders in STEM. Early in his career, Eric was an information officer for the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the UNEP Information Unit on Climate Change, and received fellowships to conduct policy research in Germany, at World Wildlife Fund, and for the U.S. EPA.
