Did you know that October is National Diversity Awareness Month? As part of Nelnet’s Better Together initiative to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion company-wide, we’ll be spotlighting several causes that matter to Nelnet and our associates throughout the month.
The effort was fueled by help from Nelnet Associate Resource Groups like BEACON (Black Engaged Associates Connecting Nelnet), DANCE (Disabilities, Access, Neurodiversity, and Caregiver Empowerment), PRISM (an LGTBQIA+ support group), Unidos (a LatinX support group), and more.
Throughout October, several meaningful events will be celebrated:
- National Diversity Awareness Month (October): Each week in October, Nelnet will highlight a different type of diversity to help all associates invite and cultivate diversity in all its forms.
- Mental Illness Awareness Week (October 2 – 8): Run in collaboration with the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI), the goals of this week are to to raise awareness of mental illnesses, fight discrimination, and provide support.
- Indigenous Peoples Day (October 10): During this holiday, we’ll celebrate the contributions of Indigenous peoples on our past, while continuing to focus on new opportunities to include these groups in our future.
- Nelnet Diversity Week (October 11-15): This weeklong concentrated celebration will feature daily efforts to promote diversity, including the sharing of resources, infographics, training opportunities and ebooks that cover important topics.
This concentrated month-long celebration is just a part of Nelnet’s ongoing efforts to push for a workplace that is equally welcoming to all associates – an effort that will continue well into the future.
